Privacy Policy

How this site handles the small amount of information it collects.

Placeholder policy — this is a plain-English template and must be reviewed (ideally by counsel or the publisher) and updated with real provider names before launch.

Last updated: July 22, 2026

This website, powerofanimism.com, exists to share information about the book The Healing Power of Animism by Mark Bockley. It is a simple, static site. We aim to collect as little personal information as possible, and to be plain about what we do collect.

What we collect

We only collect information you choose to give us:

  • Newsletter sign-ups. If you join the mailing list, we collect the email address you submit.
  • Contact messages. If you email the author, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.

We do not ask for, and do not want, any sensitive personal information through this site.

How we use it

We use your email address only to send the occasional updates you signed up for — notes on the work, the book, and events. We use the information in a contact message only to read and respond to that message.

What we do not do

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it for advertising. We do not build advertising profiles of visitors.

Third-party providers

To deliver the newsletter, we rely on a reputable third-party service provider. The newsletter is delivered through Substack, which stores the email address you use to subscribe in order to send you the newsletter. Contact messages are ordinary email: they are delivered to the author's inbox, which is hosted by Google (Gmail), and are handled like personal correspondence. The website itself is hosted by a static hosting provider, which may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security and reliability.

Visit statistics

To understand how many people visit the site and which pages they read, we use Vercel Web Analytics, a privacy-respecting measurement service from our hosting provider. It counts page views and visitors in aggregate. It does not use cookies, does not follow you to other websites, and does not build a profile of you. Visitors are counted with a temporary anonymous identifier that is discarded daily and cannot reasonably be traced back to you.

Cookies

This site does not use tracking or advertising cookies, and it does not run analytics that profile you. Any cookies that appear are limited to what is strictly necessary for the site to function.

Your choices and data requests

You can unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time using the link in any email we send. You may also ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. To make a request, contact us using the details below, and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Children

This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above.
